Minutes for the Parents for Student Life
Meeting February 23, 2010
In Attendance were:
Sandra Parker, Brian Cote, Rose Vaglica, Robyn
Polillio, April Reis, Brian Foster, Erin MacMullen, Ligia Madeira,
Vicki Goetz, Debbie Smith, Jean Gouveia, Ann Farrell, Kris Hunt,
Cheryl Paulo, Crystal Ng, Roxanne Faidell, and Kayla Li.
The meeting was called to order promptly at
7pm. Mrs. Parker opened the meeting with a Lenten Prayer. Mrs.
Parker then wanted to state that she feels that the school year thus
far has been great and a success with the events that have been held
for the children. She feels that the Parents for Student Life Group
has done a good job and is thankful for all of the help from so many
of the parents.
Mrs. Polillio stated that the first item on the
agenda is McTeachers Nite which will be held on Tuesday,
March 23rd beginning at 4pm. Mrs. Smith heads up this
event. It is the Raynham, Route 44 McDonald’s. Any customer
through the door or drive-thru from 4 – 7pm, St. Mary’s will receive
a portion of the profits. This is always a huge success and a lot
of fun. The teachers and administration are behind the counter and
at the drive-thru window serving everyone. It’s a fun time; please
try to join us if you can.
Mother/Son Providence Bruins Night – Friday,
March 26th. It was decided that there would be
another Mother/Son Night for the Providence Bruins this year. The
topic of pictures was brought up and this year, they will be done
very much like the Santa pictures at the Christmas fair. They will
be taken at the game, prior to the start of the game. There will
also be two other opportunities during the game in which the
pictures could be taken. A cost has not yet been determined. Also
the bus was discussed and Mrs. Parker stated that last year many
people signed up for the bus, but then did not take it. The school
had to eat most of the cost. A sign up sheet with a price for the
bus will go out so that people who would like to take the bus will
pay for a seat. A price will be determined at that time.
It was discussed, however, that the Mother/Son
Dance in years past has been a very special and important event. It
was suggested that the Providence Bruins night out should be a
family night and not a Mother/Son. There were many families there
last year and it was not a “special” Mother/Son event. Mrs. Parker
stated that we would look into having a Mother/Son Dance at some
point this year.
Easter Egg Hunt Monday, March 29th
The Easter Egg Hunt will take place just like last year. It was a
lot of fun for the children and worked out well. Some eggs were
hidden on the playground and while children searched for those, eggs
were being hidden at the Rectory. We are looking for candy
donations and ideas were given. There will be no gum or peanut
candy allowed. Examples of candy are skittles, starbursts,
airheads, tootsie rolls, and Swedish fish. There will be volunteers
needed for the hunt. Parents will be needed to stuff the eggs and
then on the day of the hunt to help hide them. The students got to
find 7 eggs each.
Cookie Dough Delivery Day will be Wednesday,
March 31st The cookie sales went very
will again this year and will be delivered on Wednesday, March 31st.
Volunteers will be needed to help sort and package orders from 2pm
to 5pm on that day. The school will not be able to hold any cookies
due to the fact there is no place to store them, therefore they will
need to be picked up on this day. This pick-up date will be posted
on the website, as well as all of the other events and dates in
these minutes.
Variety Show Thursday, April 29th
The school will hold another Variety Show and it will begin at
5pm on Thursday, April 29th held at the St. Mary’s
auditorium. This event was a lot of fun last year. Any student is
allowed to participate. There is no cost for this event.
Volunteers will be asked for baked goods to be sold at the event.
Cookies, brownies, little treats to be sold to the children while
watching the show.
Teacher Appreciation Luncheon Tuesday, May 4th
This is the actual Teacher Appreciation Day. This year we are
asking for donations. Simply a dollar per family is all that we are
asking for, simply to help defer the cost. There will also be
volunteers needed to help serve lunch to the teachers. Lunch will
be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Classroom coverage for the
teachers will also be needed. There will be sign-up sheets for this
event. Volunteers will also be asked to bake dessert items for the
teachers as well.
Grandparents Day Friday, May 14th
This event is always nice for the children. There will be two
assemblies in the auditorium for the grandparents/grandfriends.
Times will follow. We are looking for baked goods for this event.
Volunteers will be needed for this event.
Book Fair The book fair which is the
last book fair of the year will run from Friday, May 14th
through Wednesday May 19th. We will set up the fair on
Thursday, the 13th and volunteers will be needed. There
will be sign up sheets to work the fair as well, especially for
Grandparents Day. This book fair is the “Buy One Get One Free” fair
and always a successful event. The book fair will be broken down on
the 19th and volunteers will be needed for that.
Golf Tournament Monday, May 17th
Mrs. Smith spoke of the upcoming golf tournament. The cost
includes the cart, lunch, a gift and then dinner. It is an all-day
event and a lot of fun. It does fill up quickly because they can
only have so many foursomes. More information will be forthcoming.
Please refer to the website for upcoming details.
Field Day/Cookout Friday, May 28th
The field day and cookout are being brought
back together this year. It is always a lot of fun for the
children. Many volunteers are needed for the various 15 game
stations. They look to have roughly 3 – 4 people at each station.
Mrs. Polillio stated she has a contact who has agreed to donate the
hotdogs and rolls for the event. More information will follow on
this event as well.
Auction Sunday June 27th The
auction this year will be held at the Five Bridge Inn in Rehoboth,
Ma. The event will begin at 2pm. It is a lovely outdoor place.
Saint Mary’s and Coyle and Cassidy High School will be the only
schools participating this year. The profit will be a 50-50 split
between the two schools. There will be wine and beer tasting
stations with horsd’oeuvres, as you enjoy walking through some
silent auction items. The live auction will be held before dinner
this year. Dinner will be held roughly at 5pm. Dinner will be a
family style meal with chicken, roast beef, salad, pasta etc. There
will be a full bar, run by a Saint Mary’s parent, who will be
donating some of the profit back to the school. Mrs. Smith stated
that there is an auction meeting tomorrow night (Wednesday the 24th)
at Coyle if anyone would like to attend.
That covers all of the agenda items. There are
only two Parent For Student Life Meetings left for this year, and
they will be Tuesday, April 13th and Wednesday, May 12th.
The date for the end of the year social in June is still to be
determined.
A question was raised regarding a 5th
Grade Graduation Party. Mrs. Parker asked the 5th Grade
parents present a good day to hold a meeting regarding the party,
and a 5th Grade Dance. It was decided that a meeting
will be held on Tuesday March 16th for the 5th
Grade Parents of the school. Please check the website for details.
Mrs. Hunt said she would be happy to volunteer. Currently
graduation day is Friday, June 18th. The end of the year
Mass will be held at 10 a.m. and graduation will follow.
Mrs. Ng stated that she will not be coming back
to the school next year and stated that she is looking for a
volunteer to take over the crafts for the Annual Christmas Fair.
Anyone interested is asked to please contact her.
Mrs. Parker stated that this Friday, February
26th will be a Free Dress Down Day due to the great
contributions made by the children and families for the American
Heart Association. Thanks to everyone!
The meeting was adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
