News from the School Nurse
Mrs. Nora Orfanello, R.N.

Hello from a busy nurse's office! I wanted to share some flu related news with you. At this time, I know of one child who is out with a probable case of swine flu. This child's family has been in touch with their pediatrician. It was recommended that he not be brought to the doctor's just to confirm a diagnosis. The pediatrician does not want to run the risk of exposing more children to the flu. This is what the DPH has suggested as a course of action as well. The aim is to contain the flu so that we don't experience high numbers of children getting sick. At school, we are monitoring children who are out sick to make sure they are not returning to school too soon. We are also taking children's temperatures in school for any complaint of sore throat, head ache, stomach ache, or just not feeling well. We are noticing that the children are doing a good job with cough etiquette and hand washing. Teachers are being sanitizing their classrooms frequently, and parents are observing the rule about when to send kids back after having a fever. Please continue to let us know if you suspect that someone in your family has the flu. We are all hoping that we don't get an outbreak at St. Mary's. The website, Flu.gov has a lot of information if you want to learn more about the flu.

Thanks, and I wish everyone good health!!

Nora Orfanello, RN
